Services Offered at Tithe Green

Tithe Green Burial Ground is able to offer grave plots for burial in eco-friendly coffins and shrouds as well as interment of cremated remains. Common choices for eco-friendly coffins include wool, willow, banana leaf and soft woods. Each grave plot is suitable for a single coffin or up to four cremated remains and can be chosen in either a meadow or woodland area.

Part of the meadow has been consecrated for Church of England Christian belief and was blessed by the Bishop of Southwell when the site was first opened. Plots within this area are now limited in number.

Other non-consecrated areas of meadow are available for burial and over time additional areas will be added. Individual grave plots within these areas can be blessed according to different faiths.

Due to demand, it was decided in 2010 to open an area for woodland burial, whereby a memorial tree is planted directly on the grave.

Grave plots can also be pre-purchased. Specific plots can be chosen within the consecrated meadow area, but with regard to the non-consecrated meadow and woodland areas the plot is not normally chosen until just prior to the burial.

Where family plots have been requested in non-consecrated meadow areas, both plots are chosen adjacent to each other at the time of the first burial.

Although we continue to plant trees in the woodland areas, presently it is not practical to offer family plots within these areas, as access to such plots would be awkward and may damage the roots of existing trees. However Tithe Green may well be able to offer family woodland plots in the future.

Areas adjacent to the meadows have also been set aside for the planting of memorial trees either relating to meadow graves or as general memorials. In addition to the interment of cremated remains on a grave plot, it is also possible to inter the cremated remains beneath such a memorial tree within one of these adjacent areas.

Tithe Green is able to offer memorial plaques, produced by a local stonemason in Leicestershire that are of high quality and made from dark grey Welsh slate. Both grave plaques and tree plaques are available direct from Tithe Green.
